Elvis Costello Tickets – Opening Up ‘secrets’ And ‘sugarcane’
Hopped up on ‘sugarcane,’ Elvis Costello has lined up several spring tour dates in support of his latest album, Secret, Profane and Sugarcane. Costello’s 25th studio album saw him opening up Alberta’s Winspear Center in early February before kicking off a steady solo set throughout the month of April and May, with performances in Napa, Calif.; San Diego, Calif.; Richmond, Va.; Jacksonville, Fla.; New Orleans, La.; Wilkesboro, N.C.; Reno, Nev. and Dallas, Texas.
The June 2009 album peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200, Canadian and Internet Albums chart while it saw commercial acclaim thanks to its release with Starbucks’ Hear Music label, a label that introduced the set not only at national music retail outlets but also at the international coffee chain. The 25th studio set from the London native was recorded in Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studio and produced by T Bone Burnett, the author of Costello’s current hits “Sulphur to Sugarcane” and “The Crooked Line.” The legendary T Bone Burnett was recently awarded the Best Original Score Oscar Sunday, March 7th for his work with Ryan Bingham on the Crazy Heart hit “The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart).” The producer had previously been nominated for the Costello performed tune “Scarlet Tide” from the film Cold Mountain during 2004′s award season, though this was the first win for Burnett.
In more spotlight news, Costello has just returned as the final act for Sonoma’s Jazz Festival, which will see him headlining for the third year in a row during the festival’s sixth annual event. The Memorial Day festivities will also include performances by Crosby, Stills and Nash as well as Earth, Wind and Fire. While his solo and festival performances are few and far between, it’s for good reason; Costello reignited his Sundance Channel music series Spectacle: Elvis Costelo With…this December with a show featuring Bono and the Edge. Since then, he has welcomed Bruce Springsteen, Lyle Lovett and Ray LaMontagne to the studio, with episodes premiering in March. Meanwhile, season one of the Sundance Channel show was released on Blu-Ray and DVD this past November, featuring all 13 episodes with guests like the Police, Sir Elton John and James Taylor.
Costello was born Declan MacManus but took his name from Elvis Presley and his mother’s maiden name when he started performing around London in the early ’70s. His music struck a chord with the indie label Stiff, who signed the artist as a solo act though he had been performing with country rock outfit Flip City. While recording his first few singles, Costello gained momentum and found his permanent backing band – the Attractions – while in the studio with producer Nick Lowe.
The debut scored well both in the UK and the States, before “Watching the Detectives” became a hit. The first Costello – Attractions collaboration came with 1978′s This Year’s Model, an even bigger international break for Costello as he returned quickly with Armed Forces. He has continued to see international success while appearing with new backing bands and genres.
