Help With Flute University Entry Auditions?
Okay, so I’m applying to UVIC for their faculty of fine arts, under music/flute.
I know I have to audition, but I don’t know /what/ per say I should use as audition material.
I don’t take private lessons, but my school band teacher has been pressing me to continue my studies, and honestly it’s all I really want to do. I absolutely /love/ my flute. So, so much.
I am currently practicing “Variations on “Crying Flute” by Herbert Lindholm, and basically have it “down pat,” so to speak.
However,
is that piece of music appropriate for my entry audition?
and
what level of playing is it? I don’t want to audition with a piece of music that is of easy, and elementary level.
Thank you. Thank you very much.

UVIC as in Uni of Victoria, Australia? Most have specific requirements usually standard grade pieces and scales, sight reading etc. I strongly suggest a flute teacher there is no way that getting thought this audition is an option. They will be able to physically see and hear what level your playing is at. And design a plan to get through this audition. You may not be ready yet and need to spend a year of two learning technique etc. The piece that you mentioned is not a flute piece that is graded. Bach , Telemann , Polounc, Mozart are more the composers that you need to look at. Try any of these pieces on the link below. Especially Bach g minor sonata , suite in b minor and Mozart sonata no 5. All of these pieces are 6th grade AMEB which is the minimum you need to survive an audition
