Her Story... |
|
|
|
IT STINGS YOU, it pierces your heart! It soars
high then it glides, it can bite you and it can kiss you… It is Jaclyn
Whittal’s voice. Reminiscent of the greatest rock singers of our time,
the artists that sang the SONG, that conveyed the meaning of its story.
Jaclyn’s art is fearless and proud. |
|
 |
|
The Toronto-based artist has been writing and
performing as long as she can remember. Jaclyn has performed in every
major city throughout Germany, Austria, and The Netherlands and in all
major cities across her native Canada. After years of touring, recording
and promoting her debut album “SCREWTINY”, Jaclyn retreated to her home
studio north of Toronto and has spent most of 2006 reflecting on her
life and creating her second album “LIPSTING”. |
|
|
|
On LIPSTING Jaclyn reveals some personal secrets
while she showcases her progressive songwriting and arrangement
abilities. The title track of this album is a superbly composed piece
that lifts you to a higher place. The melodic lyrics and 2 part
harmonies blend as the verses tell the tale of a young couple’s struggle
to find serenity. Lush male harmonies support Jaclyn’s sweet execution
of the Chorus’ message… “Feel my LipSting, imagine anything”. |
|
|
|
"I wanted to be a bigger part of all of it this time
around." Jaclyn says, "There's not enough room in this tough industry to
be just a singer, you’ll be swallowed up before you know it. You need to
write, perform, dance and sell yourself on every level that you can" |
|
|
|
LIPSTING contains some seriously jagged rock-cuts
that were co-written with her Producer
Ross J. Hardy. Tracks
like SOLDIER and the lead off track 5th DEGREE capture some of Jaclyn’s
purist rock performances! |
|
|
|
“Jaclyn is a powerhouse! Durable and determined as
hell. I just hit record, then she takes me away.”
Ross J. Hardy |
|
|
|
To compliment the musical direction on LIPSTING
Jaclyn collaborated with some phenomenal musicians, some of which she
has worked with while touring in the past. Richard Jackson, an
incredible Canadian born drummer and percussionist got on board with the
creative process at an early stage. Richard had acquired his training in
the remote forest of Western Africa where he lived for years building
his own instruments using ancient techniques learned from his mentor. An
accomplished musician Rich Levesque took control of the Bass Guitar for
this whole album. Currently on tour with Tom Cochrane, Rich has been a
session pro in Canada for over a decade. |
|
|
|
When it came time to mix the album Jaclyn employed
the services of established mixing and mastering engineer Cory Barnes
(credits). With all of the music well on it’s way to being mastered
Jaclyn’s focus shifted back into marketing and promotion. As an
independent artist Jaclyn’s in charge of promoting her own career. She
works endless hours day and night creating cost effective promotional
concepts. She is as much a business woman and entrepreneur as she is a
creative artist. |
|
|
|
Back when…
Jaclyn began to express her musical gift at a very young age and by the
time she hit High School she knew that a career in entertainment was her
destiny. Jaclyn nurtured and refined her skills at The University Of
Windsor’s Musical Theatre program. |
|
|
|
Jaclyn graduated and was immediately offered a
long-term contract performing at Deerhurst Resort in Muskoka, Canada; in
the very same stage production Shania Twain was once a cast member. Only
six years after Miss Twain’s departure Jaclyn would fill her shoes by
1997. There, a few years later a cast member introduced her to Canadian
music Producer / Songwriter Ross J. Hardy. |
|
|
|
Whittal and Hardy connected immediately. It is a rare
and unique relationship that has created 2 full albums over the past 3
years and has planted Jaclyn’s feet in the industry as one of its future
stars! Throughout the initial development phase of shifting her focus to
becoming a recording artist, Jaclyn continued to perform in several
Musical theatre productions in Europe and in Canada. This area of
Jaclyn’s expertise has seen her perform various lead roles in some of
the most coveted venues in Germany and Austria. One production of
“GREASE - The Musical” had Jaclyn perform the lead role of “Sandy” in
over 50 cities over a 3-month period! |
|
|
|
"I had less than 6 days to learn an entire script in
German. I remember rehearsing with my coach thinking this is never going
to happen in time, but it does and it did. We opened in Terneuzan,
Holland 6 days later" |
|
|
|
Since breaking away from the Theatre world to further
her solo recording career Jaclyn has won the 2006 MIX 99.9 FM Rockstar
Songwriting Contest with her single LET ME CRY. She has also been
featured on CTV Television in three provinces, spotlighted on 680 news
in Toronto, CBC Radio, many CHR/HOT AC/Triple AAA Radio Interviews.
ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT CANADA produced a program based on Jaclyn’s
independent project and was musical guest on Vancouver’s URBAN RUSH this
past winter while promoting her music to radio across Canada. This has
led to rotation for Let Me Cry on Calgary’s California 103FM and
Winnipeg’s Cafe 100FM and several others. Most recently Jaclyn has
appeared on the small screen hit TV show “Making It Big” in support of
Lipsting. It aired on Life Network in Canada and Oxygen Network in the
U.S. in Feb 2007 |

"… Jaclyn Whittal rocked out for the staff in the
lobby – and you should hear the pipes on this woman. I don’t know what
studio she likes to record in, but they might want to stock up on
extra-heavy duty microphones.”
